Station Guide

A Build & Talk

Students build rockets and receive instruction here. Located near the launcher so students can easily transition to launch.

B Launch & Timer

The launcher position. Instructor operates the launcher here. Time-of-flight is measured at this station with a stopwatch.

C Altitude Observer

Positioned at the apex (midway between launch and landing), perpendicular to the flight path. Observer uses an angle gauge to estimate peak altitude. Ideal distance: 150 yards. Minimum: 150 feet.

D Distance & Retrieval

Downrange, inline with the flight path, well clear of the landing zone. Measures flight distance. Runners bring rockets back to Station A.

Space Requirements

  • True minimum: 75 ft long × 50 ft wide (fun launches, target practice, timed flights)
  • Recommended for measuring: 150 ft+ long
  • Ideal for full altitude/distance: 200+ yards long
  • Fields, playgrounds, or parking lots all work
  • Launch into the wind when possible
  • Keep spectators behind Station A/B
  • Clear the landing zone of people before each launch
